Interview Tips
A job interview could be very frightening, but the more prepared you are for it, the less stress you'll have and you'll be able to be your wonderful self! Here's some important tips:
Know about the job you are interviewing for. Make sure you can tie your skills or work experience to the job. Ask friends and family to give you feedback on how they see your skills and personality. Can they count on you? Are you reliable? Do you take an interest in learning new things?
- Be on time. Period.
- Dress nicely and be well groomed. Click here to find out more about how to dress for an interview!
- Be prepared to interview, even if you are not expecting to. If you are filling out applications at the mall, don’t be surprised if somebody wants to interview you on the spot. Are you ready? Dressed appropriately?
- Job hunting is not a team sport. Don’t take your friends with you when job hunting or interviewing.
- Be realistic about how much money you are going to make. Let’s face it, most teens are going to have to start at minimum wage.
- Know what hours and days you can work before you even go to the interview.
- Listen attentively during the interview.
- Answer questions you are asked, but don’t ramble on and talk about things that have nothing to do with the job.
- Don’t sit down until you are invited to do so.
- At the end of the interview? Thank the interviewer for their time, shake their hand firmly and tell them you hope to hear from them soon.
- Write a thank you letter to the interviewer when you get home. Click here for tips to writing your interview thank you letter.
- And most importantly, believe in yourself! You can do it!
